Thanksgiving Printables and Resources

Am I the only one who just looked at the calendar and saw how close Thanksgiving is already? Sometimes I am thankful for blog deadlines, because it ensures that I do get some of my great ideas (lol) completed!

We already have our Thanksgiving Banner done, which was featured at The Homeschool Village (you’ll find the instructions and downloadable template there.)

ImaginationStationPilgrims

My 9yr. old daughter and I read The Imagination Station Problems in Plymouth together.  My daughter has enjoyed all the books in this series (I wrote reviews  for Book 1 and 2, and Books 3 and 4. In book 6, we were transported back to Plymouth and met Miles Standish, William Bradford, Squanto and others. It was a nice book that led to several discussions about Thanksgiving.

I printed off some more Thanksgiving mini-cards for my little girls to color (I originally posted these last year.) You can use these as-is or make them decorative mini-flags by folding the card over a craft stick and glueing closed.

I also printed off several of these Thanksgiving Thankful Mats. I’m going to have my kids write what they are thankful for, color the color-by-number turkey, and then cover with contact paper for an easy holiday placemat.

If I have time I also hope to check out the following Thanksgiving resources from these talented bloggers:

I’m Thankful (craft project)

Am I the only one who can’t believe it is already November? For once though, I actually have Thanksgiving decorations up before Thanksgiving!

Can you guess what my son is thankful for? :) We turned this piece into a Thanksgiving banner. You can find the template and directions over at my post on The Homeschool Village today.

Turkey Headbands

I love when craft kits come with no need to glue! This particular turkey headband kit had Glue Dots for all the parts. It made it so that my preschoolers could do this activity independently (minus tying the string).

After reading and talking about the first Thanksgiving, the girls used pretend food to make their own Thanksgiving feast. We'll probably play this several more times before Thanksgiving because they had so much fun.

For next week  (if I get some printer ink) we'll use the wonderful Thanksgiving Preschool Pack from 1+1+1=1.

Now I need to start planning what to bring for our real Thanksgiving meal :)  Any side-dish or dessert ideas?

Thanksgiving mini-cards

The other day I went to several local craft stores and dollar stores looking for Thanksgiving craft supplies, but could not find a thing. I couldn't believe that everything was Christmas! I thought for sure there would be Thanksgiving items located in a clearance section or fall section--but there was nothing. Oriental Trading had some cute things, but in order to get them in time, I'd have to pay a high shipping price. (Note to self---stock up on Thanksgiving craft stuff when you first see it in September!) :)  Anyway, I needed something for our co-op kids to create for a local nursing home visit. I did find a craft foam flower kit that we will use, but I needed small cards to include. So I made some and thought that others might find it useful as well.

Besides using them as cards, if you glue a craft stick or toothpick in the middle, you can make little banners/flags that can be placed on desserts or in table decorations/flower arrangements. Have fun coloring! ;)
