The Shunning DVD Giveaway

TheShunning
I have been on the look-out for family-friendly movies to view with my pre-teens and teenagers in my house. My oldest daughter has been reading many of  the Amish-themed books that have been coming out lately, so when I saw The Shunning, I immediately thought that this might be a good movie for the both of us to watch together. The Shunning is based on Beverly Lewis’ The Heritage of Lancaster County series and first appeared on The Hallmark Channel.

What We Thought:
Summary: On the eve of her wedding to Bishop John, Katie Lapp finds out a family secret that turns her world upside down. Torn between two worlds---her Amish roots and “the English”, Katie ends up being shunned by the Amish community until she repents of her rebellion. Feeling like she doesn’t belong to either world, Katie sets out to figure out who she really is.

As soon as the DVD came in the mail, my oldest daughter grabbed it and wanted to watch it right away. Apparently this movie has been on her wish-list, so she was excited. I was immediately drawn into the movie because of the Amish setting. I thought Danielle Panabaker was great as Katie. It was fun to see Sherry Stringfield (from E.R.) also in the movie. It was a good, family movie. The only thing that I didn’t like was that there was no ending---they left you hanging. The ending came rather abruptly too.  Hopefully they make a sequel so I don’t have to make up the ending myself. :)
For those wondering how the movie lines up with the book---I don’t really know. I do plan on reading the book, but from what my friend tells me, the book is quite different from the movie. Pretty typical.
You can see previews, interviews, and more on The Shunning’s website.

If you’d like to see this with your family, I have a copy to giveaway. :)

Oh gosh, this is a tough one. We like Dreamworks cartoons and usually watch those on movie nights with our kids. Some of my favorites growing up that I want to get for my kids are Superbook and McGee & Me.

My favorite for me would be Pride & Prejudice (BBC version). My favorite that the kids would watch is probably Despicable Me.

I was rather disappointed with the movie, but only because I've read the whole book series and I KNOW there is more that follows... big, big stuff that follows. So, I really felt like I was left hanging! I do hope they'll come out with the rest of the series soon!
