We Choose Virtues Giveaway

virtues
I was looking for a character training curriculum to add during our Bible time this year, and came across a new company called We Choose Virtues. I was drawn to the bright and adorable illustrations and the fact that there is a faith-based option which pairs the virtue with scripture.
virtueflashcardfront I was sent a set of Faith-based flashcards and a Kids Virtues poster to check out.  I punched a hole on each card and placed the stack on a ring. Then I hung this in the kitchen so that I could easily go over the virtue for the day while eating breakfast. That way all my kids (ages 13- 10mo.) could benefit from the reading. I worked in more detail with my younger children though. We hung the poster (it is a nice, small size) in our hallway to help us remember our virtue of the day.
The Virtue: Each virtue is preceded by the words “I am.”  Not “I hope to be” or “I wish I was”. There is a reason for this. “I am “ creates positive momentum and a sense of personal ownership. One such virtue is “I am Perseverant”.

The Catchphrase: More than just a definition, the catchphrases are positive, practical and precise action statements that form the core of this system. Use them throughout the day to reinforce right attitudes and actions. The catchphrase for “I am Perseverant” is “I can do it even when it’s tough.” You will know it when you see this Virtue in action…so you can encourage!

The Antonyms: The antonyms are a glimpse into the person I no longer want to be.  These explain the negative form of the virtue by using the phrases “I am not” and “I don’t”.  The antonyms for “I am Perseverant” are “I am not going to give up or complain, and I don’t say ‘I can’t’ or ‘It’s too hard’!” You will know what Virtue is lacking and you will be able to confidently teach and correct until you see the necessary changes!
virtueflashcardback
The back of the flashcard has the catch-phrase, the antonyms and the Bible verse. These cards were created to help review the lessons, but for now this is what we use to introduce each virtue.  In order to use this program to its fullest potential though, you would need to purchase the faith-based Teacher Cards. These cards contain the script, story, and other references to teach the virtue.
stopsign Each Virtue-Ville kid is holding an object that helps kids remember the virtue. While working on Self-Control, I created popsicle-stick props that my girls could hold up while we talked about what self-control means.
abbycoloring092011
There are also some cute coloring pages available. This download contained some of the virtue kids. I’m guessing since it is vol. 1 that a vol.2 will be added eventually.

We Choose Virtues has many package options available on their site. If you are looking for materials that contain scripture, make sure you choose the faith-based versions.

Here are a couple of shopping deals for you:
Use coupon code Maureen to purchase the virtues flash-cards (with or without scriptures) for $11.99 (usually $19.99).
or
Virtuemom which gives a 25% discount on the new Homeschol products:
the TEACHER faith-based cards or the Homeschool Package (this code expires in September)
or
Virtue15  for 15% off of anything in the cart.
Be sure to follow We Choose Virtues on Facebook for up-to-date information. If you stop by, tell them Spell Outloud sent you!
